Staff Development

Teachers receive continuing support. As a result, teachers who take the Writing Alive Classes and Implementation Training become master writing teachers who effect change.

Writing Alive begins with graduate level classes that count toward continuing education, graduate credits and vertical/horizontal credit. Writing Alive delivers instruction in separate classes for primary (K-2) and intermediate (3-6), and middle school (6-8), so teachers can hear and see developmentally appropriate instruction and activities.

Next, Writing Alive Consultants work with grade level teachers every month, modeling lessons in their classrooms, fine-tuning instruction, guiding assessment and modeling how to integrate all six of the writing components.

During the second year, Writing Alive prepares a primary and intermediate Writing Alive Coach to maintain the integrity of the curriculum and help new teachers assimilate Writing Alive principles.

Each year Writing Alive helps teachers fine-tune their instruction of a different part of the writing process and revision skills.
